C.B. Aycock tops Greene Central soccer

PIKEVILLE -- The channel hasn't changed.
Episodes of the "Rodriguez Show" continue to run at Charles B. Aycock.
Jose and Chama (also called Jose) Rodriguez combined for four goals in the Golden Falcons' home-opening, 6-3 victory over Greene Central on Wednesday evening.
Chama scored in each half.
Jose punched in two first-half goals eight minutes apart.
"We definitely had some good goals," said Aycock assistant coach Scott Summers. "(But) we're rebuilding with a lot of new guys and right now we've got a lot of things to work on ... put players in the right places."
And getting healthy is key, too.
Starting goalie Brandon Davis (knee), Travis Musselman, Patrick Roosen (eye) and Tyler Schultze (eye) watched from the bench. The quartet is expected to play Monday against Wilson Fike.
Greene Central (1-1-0) competed with no substitutes.
"They didn't quit ... eleven guys went 80 minutes," said Rams head coach Jose Garcia. "I told them before the game our three goals for tonight are to score once, talk to each other and pass the ball. I think that did that very well.
"They were not intimidated."
Brian Martin opened the Rams' scoring in the 10th minute. Emmanuel Fernandez chased down a ball inside the 18-yard box and crossed the ball to Martin, who tucked a right-footed shot inside the near post.
Six minutes later, Aycock started a three-goal run.
Juan Pina drew a foul just outside the 18 and on the restart, Chama's shot deflected off the Greene Central wall. Chase Thompson collected the rebound and knocked in his second goal of the season.
Chama scored on Chris Burke's throw-in in the 27th minute and Jose followed with a goal off Tyler Lynch's assist in the 32nd minute. Jose added an unassisted goal during stoppage time as Aycock led 4-2 at the break.
"(We) found guys when we needed to in open spaces, but they have such a big, tall backline," said Garcia. "Every once in awhile we snuck a pass high, but also had to look for the pass on the ground because they were knocking a lot of balls down."
Chama and Lynch provided Aycock's second-half offensive punch. The Golden Falcons owned an 18-14 edge in shots and back-up keeper Charles Howell hauled in four saves.
The Rams also received goals from Fernandez and Ricardo Sanchez.
Aycock improved to 2-1-0 overall and has outscored the opposition 9-7 during its first three goals. The goal allowance doesn't sit well with either Summers or head coach Kevin Adkins.
"We have to work on defending," said Summers. "We need to work on structure with the team and switching around, trying to find where the players can play and get them to gel together as a team."
