WILSON -- Jose Rodriguez collected the game-winning goal with 20 minutes remaining as Charles B. Aycock nipped Wilson Fike 2-1 on Tuesday evening.

The teams entered halftime tied 0-0.

Tyler Lynch started the Golden Falcons' scoring with a second-half goal off Ryan DeMartini's assist. Three minutes later, Fike answered with Spencer Garcia's goal after a miss by teammate John Michael Sykes.

Brandon Davis recorded eight saves for Aycock.

The Golden Falcons (1-1-0 overall) entertain Greene Central today.

Volleyball

Hawks victorious

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir earned an 18-25, 25-7, 25-17, 25-16 win over Rosewood at Wooten Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Taylor Johnson provided 13 kills and seven blocks for the Eagles. Alyssa Spell added 10 assists and a service ace. Chelsea Sawkiw had five assists.

Rosewood (0-3 overall) entertains Union on Thursday.

Cougars lose

Goldsboro lost to visiting Hobbton 25-15, 25-18, 25-11 on Tuesday night.

The Cougars (0-5 overall) play host to Rocky Mount Prep tonight.

Tennis

Eagles roll

RALEIGH -- Wayne Christian swept the singles matches and dumped Trinity-Raleigh 8-1 in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Tuesday afternoon.

Brooke Barfield, Faith Sutton, Savannah Sutton, Samantha Reaves, Blake Govan and Taylor Willman each claimed a singles point.

The doubles tandems of Barfield-Faith Sutton and Govan-Gina Wall were also winners.

The Eagles entertain Grace Christian of Raleigh at Herman Park on Thursday. First serve is 4 p.m.

Warriors prevail

Eastern Wayne had little trouble disposing of Wilson Hunt in a 9-0 non-conference win.

Danielle Daniel, Miller Delbridge, Janielle Daniel, Warner Underwood, Jackie Johnson and Kristin Baddour each prevailed in singles.

The teams of Daniel Daniel-Underwood, Delbridge-Janielle Daniel and Amber Miller-Morgan Jeffreys were also victorious.

Eastern Wayne (2-1) visits No. 2-ranked Wilson Fike today.

Rams buck Bruins

WILSON -- Greene Central opened Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play with a 9-0 victory at Wilson Beddingfield on Tuesday.

Lauren Carraway, Elizabeth McLawhorn, Samantha Taylor, Jessica Gray, Abby Sugg and Abbey Dail each earned singles wins for the Rams.

The doubles teams of Carraway-McLawhorn, Gray-Hayes Lovett and Dail-Brittany Colie were also victorious.

"It was good to have our No. 4 player Jessica Gray back today and to get a win in our conference opener," said Greene Central head coach Donald Clark. "Beddingfield has a scrappy team."

The No. 2-ranked Rams (2-2 overall, 1-0 EPC) visit Raleigh Broughton on Thursday.

Harrells tops WCDS

HARRELLS -- Harrells Academy turned back Wayne Country Day 7-2 on Tuesday.

Sara Best and Mack Thompson each recorded singles victories for the Chargers, who were playing their season-opening match.

Wayne Country Day (0-1 overall) is the guest of Southern Wayne on Sept. 1.

Golden Falcons fall

WILSON -- State-ranked and defending eastern 3-A dual-team champion Wilson Fike picked up a 9-0 non-conference win over Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.

The Golden Falcons (2-2 overall) travel to Wilson Hunt today.

Golf

Walnut Creek LGA

Mary Ann Sutton claimed play-of-the-day honors during weekly tournament action on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.

Gaye Bryant and Faye Franklin won low gross and low net, respectively. Dot Julian seized low putts.

Lane Tree LGA

Susan Davis emerged the game-of-the-week winner during play on the Lane Tree Golf Club links.

Linda Hilburn and Linda Watson captured low net and low putts, respectively.

JV sports

* Soccer: Wayne Country Day 2, Harrells Academy 0 -- Jack Langston and Adam Cohan each found the back of the net for the Chargers.

* Volleyball: Rosewood d. North Lenoior 25-18, 27-25 -- Scout Anderson contributed eight assists and a kill for the Eagles (2-1 overall). Laura Vinson pitched in six kills and four assists, while Rachyle McAlduff had four assists and a kill. Kerri Jo Gurley added four kills, three service aces and two digs and Crystal Allen had four kills.

* Volleyball: Hobbton d. Goldsboro 25-8, 25-15 -- The Cougars fell to 0-4.
