CONCORD -- Goldsboro's Wesley Simmons collected a second-day, nine-hole round of 38 and is the overall leader in the 11-Under division at the 2009 Dogwood State Junior Championship.
Simmons holds a four-stroke advantage over Gastonia's Drew Jurs.
Meanwhile, Tara Simmons made the cut for third-round play in the girls' 15-under division. After two days, Simmons is at 171 -- good enough for sixth in her age group and 16th overall among female competitors in every age division.
Cabarrus Country Club is hosting the event.
Crain competing
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Goldsboro's Andy Crain is tied for 29th overall after opening-round play in the Columbia Championship on the eGolf Professional Tour scene.
Crain carded a 2-under par 69 and trails overall leader Ryan Carter by five strokes.
More than 60 competitors in the 162-player field broke par on Wednesday.
Lane Tree LGA
Lou Ellen Flowers captured game-of-the-week honors during tournament action contested at Lane Tree Golf Club.
Betty Jean Gurley won low net and low putts.
Walnut Creek LGA
Linda Cannon and Bev Ives shared play-of-the-day honors during weekly tournament play on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.
Kathy Woodard claimed low gross in first flight. Jewel Ivey and Josie Ottaviani shared low net in the same flight.
In second flight, Evelyn Rose and Joyce Reynolds tied for low gross. Betty Holloway took low net.
Mary Morris seized low putts for the field.
