Aycock advances to state tourney

Charles B. Aycock advanced to the junior legion state tournament with wins over West Craven and West Pitt on Friday at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary.

The state tournament begins next Friday in Asheboro.

Aycock defeated West Craven 8-6 on Friday morning.

Aaron Champion earned the victory on the mound in 42/3 innings of work. Derek Limbaugh tossed 21/3 scoreless innings to earn the save. Jordan Quinn led the Aycock offense with three hits and four RBI. Tyler Farmer, Tyler Ruffin (RBI) and Collin DuBose each added a hit.

Aycock defeated West Pitt 1-0 later in the day.

Christian Pate's sacrifice-fly scored Jordan Quinn for the game's only run. Ruffin provided two hits and Nick McGee had one.

Bryant Stafford pitched a complete game shutout with five strikeouts to earn the win.
