PEMBROKE -- Wayne County's bid for a trip to the Dixie Youth World Series ended with a 5-0 loss to Shallotte in the N.C. Dixie Youth Majors state tournament Tuesday evening.
Tyler Powell, Jordan Salter, Andrew McKeel and J.C. Toler emerged the offensive leaders for Wayne County. Powell surrendered nine hits and recorded three strikeouts on the mound.

Mary Ann Sutton seized play-of-the-day honors during weekly tournament action on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.
Kathy Woodard and Mary Morris took low gross and low net, respectively, in first flight. In second flight, Nancy Satterfield and Betty Holloway captured low gross and low net, respectively.
Gaye Bryant claimed low putts.
