WILSON -- Greene Central's defense did everything it could to slow down the fast-paced Wilson Beddingfield attack, but it wasn't enough as the Bruins downed the Rams 32-0 on Friday night.
The Rams forced five turnovers and tallied three sacks in the loss.
The defeat was the second straight shutout posted by the Ram offense, as the unit continues to adjust to first-year head coach Ken Grantham's option style attack.
"Eventhough it didn't show on the scoreboard I thought we did better on offense," Grantham said. "We played a much better defensive team this week against Beddingfield."
Early in the second quarter the momentum shifted to the Bruin sideline when the Rams had a touchdown pass called back due to a penalty. A play that halted the drive and eventually led to Beddingfield regaining possession.
"That was a big play because the score would have tied the game 6-6, instead we were down 6-0 and they ended up getting the ball back," Grantham said. "The tough thing is, the block in the back that was flagged was about 20 yards from the play."
The Rams never recovered.
Beddingfield rolled for two touchdowns in the third quarter and put the game away.
"I think the kids are starting to see what we are trying to do," Grantham said. "It's hard to keep them from getting frustrated, but we are improving and that is the big thing."
Greene Central (0-2 overall) will travel to C.B. Aycock on Friday.
"We are going to work on our sets in practice, and hopefully we will match-up better against Aycock," Grantham said. "They haven't played any slouches this season, so we know they will be tough."
