NEWTON GROVE -- Once thunderstorms passed through Sampson County on Friday evening, Hobbton needed little time to get on the scoreboard.

Derrick Williams' 22-yard touchdown run jump-started the Wildcats' offense and led to a 28-0, non-conference victory over Spring Creek.

After a failed Gator drive, Hobbton extended its advantage on Williams' second touchdown with 2 minutes, 11 seconds left in the opening quarter. The Wildcats played a possession game from that point on the muddy turf.

DeVonte Harris paced Spring Creek's offense with 31 yards rushing on 11 carries. Ricky Brayboy contributed 22 yards on six totes. Overall, the Gators amassed 81 yards of total offense.

Sophomore defensive back Raul Fuentes notched six tackles for Spring Creek. Senior defensive back Tyquan Best and senior linebacker John Mozingo recorded four stops apiece.

Brayboy, senior Bryant Lightfoot and sophomore linebacker Will Janning each provided three tackles.

The Gators (0-2 overall) entertain Midway on Friday. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
