Golden Falcons secure ECC golf championship
WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock claimed the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference championship at Willow Springs Country Club in Wilson on Monday.
The Golden Falcons shot a 310, followed by Eastern Wayne at 326 and Southern Wayne at 339. Wilson Hunt (341), Wilson Beddingfield (369) and Kinston (382) rounded out the team scoring. Aycock finished with a 22-shot lead over Eastern Wayne in the cumulative season scoring.
Ryan Campbell, who claimed ECC Player of the Year honors, fired a 72 to claim his fifth top finish in conference play. Falcon teammates Will Vinson (78), Austin Forrest (79) and Michael Stevens (81) also contributed to Aycock's score.
Eastern Wayne was led by Miles Perry's 80 as Eric Huetter (81), Kyle Ham (82) and Nick Barrow (83) followed closely behind.
Kevin Kornegay (82), Brad Davis (82), Casey Best (84) and Jay Connelley (91) paced Southern Wayne.
Aycock, Eastern Wayne and Wilson Hunt qualified as a team for the 3-A East Regional at Maccripine Country Club in Pinetops on May 8.
Southern Wayne's Davis and Best will compete as individuals at the regional.
Final ECC standings -- C.B. Aycock -- 2230; Eastern Wayne -- 2252; Hunt -- 2358; Southern Wayne -- 2419; Beddingfield -- 2626; Kinston -- 2692.
Panthers take
Carolina match
AYDEN -- North Johnston claimed the Class 1-A Carolina Conference championship match on Monday at Ayden Country Club on Monday.
Dustin Philyaw and Tyler Grady each fired a 76 for the Panthers, who own a 22-shot lead at the top of the conference heading into a make-up match at The Cardinal on Wednesday.
North Johnston shot a 317, followed by Ayden-Grifton at 327 and Spring Creek at 371. Princeton (332), Rosewood (366) and North Duplin (411) rounded out the team scoring.
Stephen Warren paced the Gators with a 75, while Pat Wilkens (78), Daniel Chewning (88) and Blake Rousay (90) also participated for Spring Creek.
Shane Ogburn led the Eagles with an 80, followed by Gentry Minchew (93), Joey Wagner (96), Bradley Hill (97) and Steven Ash (108).
Scott Woodard fired a 75 for Princeton, while Jonathan Lewis and J. Oliver Evans each shot 99 for North Duplin.
Hawks claim
EPC finale
WILSON -- North Lenoir's Logan O'Neal claimed medalist honors with a 73 as the Hawks won the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference title at Wedgewood Country Club on Monday.
North Lenoir finished with a team score of 313, followed by Greene Central at 323. Tarboro (351), Farmville Central (353) and North Pitt (400) rounded out the team scoring.
Blake Sutton led the Rams with a 79, while Brandon Jones (80), Josh Elmore (82) and Josh Ribeiro (82) also contributed to Greene Central's score.
North Lenoir and Greene Central qualified as teams for the 2-A East Regional at Star Hill Country Club in Cape Carteret on May 8.
