LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The K-Tribe notched their Carolina League leading 16th win of the season Monday night as Kinston beat the Lynchburg Hillcats 9-3 at City Stadium.

The Indians (16-7) started the night off right when Michael Aubrey, just called up to Kinston from extended spring training on a rehabilitation stint, hit a sacrifice fly to center field which scored Argenis Reyes and put the K-Tribe up 1-0.

Brian Barton followed Aubrey with a bases-clearing, three-run homer, his third of the season. With the hit, Barton made the score 4-0 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games, tied for the longest streak this year in the Carolina League.

The hits kept coming as Matt Whitney lined a two-out double to the wall that brought in Ryan Goleski and pushed the Tribe's lead to 5-0.

Kinston starter Jensen Lewis (3-2) took it from there. He picked up the win by going seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits.

Kinston and Lynchburg hook up tonight for game two of the four-game series. Kinston will send 20-year-old left-hander Chuck Lofgren to the mound for the 7:05 p.m. contest.
