Narron, Hill pace Rosewood to Carolina 1-A win

Clare Narron and Jessica Hill led three Rosewood players in double figures with 12 points apiece in a 42-37, Class 1-A Carolina Conference victory against Ayden-Grifton Friday evening.

The Eagles (2-3) evened their Carolina worksheet at 1-1.

"I didn't think we shot the ball well," second-year Rosewood coach Jerry Narron said. "We had a lot of shots close to the basket we didn't capitalize on. But we played well enough down the stretch."

Munroe hit two free throws with less than a minute to go to seal the win.

Stephanie Rhodes added 10 points for Rosewood.

Kiki Pugh paced the Chargers with a game-high 17 points. Teammate Jasmine Cox added 10.

The Eagles return to action next Friday at Wayne Country Day.

Cougars get ECC road win

MOREHEAD CITY -- Goldsboro's Ashelyn James had 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Cougars remained unbeaten in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference with a 49-28 win at West Carteret on Friday.

Jessica Faison added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars, while Mikeda Graham and Chevoya Jackson also had 10 points each.

Goldsboro (5-2, 4-0 ECC) puts its 20-game ECC regular-season win streak on the line Monday at South Central.

Panthers roll over Rebels

KENLY -- Sophomore Shanice Williams scored 14 points off the bench to help North Johnston to a 64-33 conquest of North Duplin in its Carolina 1-A Conference opener Friday evening.

Williams, a 5-foot-8 center, saw plenty of action because of senior center Helen Moore's foul trouble. Williams scored all of her points in the first half, including eight points during a 12-0 Lady Panthers' run to close the second quarter and take back control of the game.

Williams also grabbed five steals.

Amazingly, Moore finished with a team-high 18 points in limited action.

"We got 32 points out of that position tonight," said Lady Panthers' head coach David Bagwell, whose team improves to 3-3.

"With Helen in foul trouble, Shanice did a good job of filling in tonight."

Senior guard Lakisha McFadden also scored 14 points for North Johnston.

Rampants knock off Saints

DUDLEY -- Ebony Darden led Southern Wayne with 10 points, but visiting J.H. Rose proved too much offensively in the final quarter of a 53-27, non-conference loss Friday evening.

The Rampants outscored the Saints 18-4 in the final eight minutes.

Randi Watts led J.H. Rose with 17 points.

Southern Wayne (3-4) is the guest of West Carteret next Monday.

Eagles win close contest

KINSTON -- Wayne Christian's Brittany Sullivan scored 16 of her team's 19 points as the Eagles defeated Parrott Academy 19-18 in Kinston on Friday.

Sullivan dropped in the game-winning basket with 15 seconds left..

Wayne Christian (4-1) plays host to Northwood Temple on Jan. 4.
