DALTON O’NEIL PURVIS

Died July 22, 2018

Dalton O’Neil Purvis, 89, Robersonville, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Vidant Health in Tarboro.

He was born in Martin County to the late Andrew Ernest “Jack” Purvis and Effie Carlisle Purvis.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Hassell community.

Dalton was a community leader who served on the local Oak City school board and on several county agricultural boards and committees.

For many years, he was a deacon in Hassell Christian Church, and currently was a member of Oak City Christian Church.

Dalton's greatest passion was all things pertaining to farming.

Always an outdoorsman, Dalton enjoyed hunting, and ended most days riding in his pick-up truck studying his crops.

He was a family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Velma of the home; daughter, Linda and husband, Hurshell, of Rocky Mount; daughter, Ruth of Olathe, Kan.; a son, the Rev. Frank Purvis and wife, Sandy, of Grantham; grandchildren, Andrew Dilda, Laura Robbins, Patricia Smith and Rebekah Matthews; great-grandchildren, Ali Ann Laney and Sidney Dilda; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Carlisle Purvis; a son, Dalton Oneil Purvis Jr.; six brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral will be Wednesday, July 25, at Biggs chapel in Robersonville, N.C., at 3 p.m.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at Biggs Chapel.
