Nov. 17, 1923-June 28, 2018 ;

Norma Surles King, 94, Goldsboro, passed away suddenly Thursday, June 28, 2018, while enjoying her beloved Echo Cottage in Little Switzerland, N.C.

Norma was born in Robeson County, N.C., Nov. 17, 1923.

She was married to Clyde King for nearly 64 years before his passing Nov. 2, 2010.

She is also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Watson Duls, and brothers, Hoover and Tommy Surles.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen King Owensby. ;

Norma earned an associate degree from Pineland College in Salemburg, N.C., before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1944. ;

A devoted member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, Norma taught Sunday School for more than 30 years.

She was known to everyone as an avid baseball enthusiast, who followed the Dodgers, Reds, Cardinals, Pirates and Giants, but had been a huge fan of the New York Yankees since 1976. ;

Funeral services are Sunday, July 1, 2018, at 3 p.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church. The burial will follow the service at Willow Dale Cemetery. ;

Norma is survived by her three daughters, Norma King Blackman and husband, Dr. Jesse Blackman, of Fremont, N.C., Princie King Evans and husband, Doug Evans, of Wilson, N.C., and Janet King Peacock and husband, John Peacock, of Goldsboro, N.C.; her eight grandchildren, Dr. Jay Blackman and wife, Dr. Emily Blackman, of Chattanooga, Tenn., EGie Rochlin and husband, Jon Rochlin, of San Francisco, Calif., Blythe Evans of Wilson, N.C., Miranda Boling and husband, Miles, of Siler City, N.C., Sam Evans of Wilson, NC, Mary Clyde Peacock of Jacksonville FL, Hadley Johnson and husband, Bennett Johnson of Goldsboro, N.C., and Mallory Peacock, of Raleigh, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Talley, Elin and Nora Blackman of Chattanooga, Tenn., Libby Rochlin of San Francisco, Calif., and Anna Bennett and Margo Johnson of Goldsboro, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. ;

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 30, 2018, starting at 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home or any other time at the home of Janet and Johnny Peacock, 202 N. Slocumb St., Goldsboro, N.C. ;
