LESLIE JEROME JERNIGAN

Leslie Jerome Jernigan, 69, resident of Clayton, formerly of Faison, died Saturday morning, May 12, while being cared for at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.

He is survived by a daughter, Nikki Jernigan Ennis and husband, Perry, of Dunn; brother, L. Glenn Jernigan and wife, Evelyn, of Faison; two precious grandchildren, Perri Caroline and Palmer Ennis of Dunn; and several special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Audie Jerome Jernigan and Lillie Mae Register Jernigan, and a sister, Shelby J. Pearsall.

A service of remembrance will be Wednesday, May 16, at 11 a.m. by the graveside in Faison Town Cemetery in Faison, officiated by the Rev. Ronnie Ezzell.

The family will be receiving friends Tuesday evening, May 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Faison Baptist Church, 401 W. Main S., Faison, N.C.

Leslie was a larger-than-life guy, better known as "Big Les," and was always the life of any event or family gathering.

He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

He had volunteered with Faison Fire and Rescue for more than 20 years, had served as chief of police for the town of Warsaw, had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from Southern Produce Co. as a truck driver.
