MARGARET ROSE POWELL WELLS
May 13, 1940-Feb. 19, 2018
Margaret Rose Powell Wells was the daughter of the late James Robert and Madge Sutton Powell.
She was born May 13, 1940, in Wayne County, N.C., and went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Wayne UNC Health Care.
Margaret attended the Wayne County Public Schools. She also attended Crumpler Business School and Wayne Community College.
Her last employment was with the University of Mount Olive, having worked in the business office for 29 years.
Margaret was a very independent person, who believed in making her own way in life.
She worked as an administrative person in the financial and dental fields.
She worked for Burlington Industries as administrative assistant to the general manager for 19 1/2 years, and was an avid representative for Avon Sales for 28 years.
Margaret finally retired in 2009.
She was a dedicated member of New Hope United Methodist Church, where she served as vice president of the ladies auxiliary.
Margaret was known for her great cooking, having learned the trait from her mother.
She was stricken with breast cancer in 2002, and never waivered the determination to live. She survived major surgeries, and supported many women who were diagnosed with cancer.
Margaret is by survived by her daughter, Virginia Jones; her grandson, Cameron R. Jones and wife, Jamie; three sisters, Sallie Hodgin, Sandra Foss and husband, Ronnie, and Doris Cherry; three brothers, Joseph Powell, Willie Powell and wife, Carolyn, and Dewey Lee Powell and wife, Janet; her sister-in-law, Arlene Powell; and a special friend, Bobbie J. Lewis.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Walker Wells; her brothers, James Robert Powell, Allen "A.C." Powell and his wife, Elizabeth, and John Powell and his wife, Margaret Esther; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Powell; and a brother in-law, George Hodgin.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro, with burial following at Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
She leaves us with a legacy of love, generosity, kind heartiness and a tireless spirit that is not just thought, but about deeds.
May all who loved her praise God for allowing her to have passed our way, for she enriched all of our lives so much.
And for the song she loved, "To God Be The Glory," I want to hear him say, "Well done," and may the work I've done speak for me.
