C. CRAIG KORNEGAY

Oct. 11, 1928-Jan. 19, 2018

Cornelious Craig Kornegay, 89, known to many as "Mug," of the Pleasant Grove area of Albertson, died early Friday morning, Jan. 19, 2018, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

He was a "fixture" in the community and was the "Mr. Fix-it." No matter the problem, he could usually "come up" with a solution whether it be plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, or a well drilling issue. Also after completing a job, he would remain onsite to converse with those for whom he had done the work. A very talkative and likable person, he liked to drop by for a visit, which often would last for several hours. He enjoyed rocking and swinging, and was good with recanting stories of days gone by.

Mr. Kornegay is survived by five children and their spouses, Nancy K. and Henry Carawan of Albertson, Danny Kornegay of Deep Run, Randy and Jean Kornegay of Mount Olive, Garry and Paulette Kornegay of Albertson, and Jeaneen K. Ortiz of Albertson; a sister-in-law, Hazel Waters Kornegay of Calypso; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Whaley Kornegay; a son, Terry Kornegay; a grandson; a great-grandchild; brother, Adolph Kornegay and Adolph's little twin, Randolph Kornegay.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. from Tyndall Funeral Home, with visitation following. Burial will be Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. at the C. Craig and Elizabeth W. Kornegay Family Cemetery at the family homeplace.

A Tyndall service.
