ANN SCOTT TOLAR

Ann Scott Tolar, 90, a resident of Brookdale Country Day, died Thursday, Nov. 30, following a period of declining health.
She was born May 28, 1927, to Jerry Leftridge and Elizabeth Draughon Scott of Fayetteville. Ann was married to Harry Russell Tolar, also of Fayetteville, and they moved to Goldsboro in 1951.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Ellen Scott, Jennie Bleecker and Katherine Baird, and brothers William Scott, Charles Scott, Berry Scott, Edgar Scott, Buck Scott and Jimmy Scott.
Ann's life was a reflection of her strong faith and love of family. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church. For her service and dedication, she was recognized by the Presbyterian Women with Honorary Life Membership in 2007.
Ann was the general manager of Goldsboro Country Club for many years, where she enjoyed assisting families and organizations celebrate special occasions. She spent many hours as a community volunteer and especially enjoyed her work in her later years at the Charles B. Aycock Birthplace and Community Soup Kitchen.
She is survived by her children, Harry Russell Tolar Jr. of Wilmington, Ann "Scottie" Tolar Bryan and husband, Bill, of Mount Olive, and Betty Alliston Tolar of Greenville. She is also survived by grandsons, Matthew Tolar of Columbia, S.C., Will Bryan and wife, Laura, of Mount Olive, and Byron Bryan and wife, Sydney, of Raleigh, along with a great-granddaughter, Brighton Tolar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian. The family will greet friends after the service in McChesney Hall and at other times at the home of Bill and Scottie Bryan in Mount Olive. A private inurnment in the church columbarium will be held at a later date.
