Kathryn Seymour Batson died peacefully at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at the age of 96.
Kathryn was one of the first teachers in the Head Start Program that began in 1966.
She later finished her teaching career at North Drive Elementary School.
Kathryn loved children, and took great pleasure in teaching them.
She also enjoyed playing and loving all 13 of her great-grandchildren. She will be truly missed.
A graveside service to celebrate Kathryn's life will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at 2 p.m. in Willow Dale Cemetery, with Bill Garner officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Kathryn is survived by her son, M. Terry Batson and his wife, Denise, who was also her loving caregiver for the last four years.
She is also survived by six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Kathryn always enjoyed the companionship of her grand-dog, Auto, who loved going "under the bridge" with her and getting treats every meal.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Francis H. Batson; an infant daughter; and her oldest son, Francis H. Batson II.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital in her memory or to the Red Cross hurricane relief fund.
