Rodney Earl Lambert Sr., 84, lifelong resident of Calypso, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 12, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center following a period of declining health.

Visitation with the Lambert family will take place at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive between 6 and 8 p.m. Thursday, April 13, and at other times, at the home.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, officiated by the Rev. Nick Nielsen, with burial following in Calypso Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, 27534.

Rodney, a 1952 graduate of Calypso High School, served in the United States Army.

For a short tenure of time, he was a traveling salesman for a syrup company, but his engagement in farming led to a lifetime career.

In past years, he had also been employed as a courier with the Mount Olive Tribune, and had been a part-time assistant at Tyndall Funeral Home.

He was a member of Calypso Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a deacon.

He was a retired member of Calypso Fire Department, where he served in various capacities for a total of 54 years, 12 of which he was chief.

Rodney was the youngest of 10 children, and is the last of his siblings to pass away.

In eternal peace, he now joins his parents, Marvin James Lambert Sr. and Virginia Herring Lambert; seven sisters, Nannie Ruffin Swinson, Ella Barwick, Maria Kennedy, Mabel Lambert, Pearl Hines, Rachel Pate and Marguerite Lambert; and two brothers, M.J. Lambert Jr. and William Lambert.

Those who survive him include his wife, Rubylene Waters Lambert; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Earl Lambert Jr. and Laura King Lambert; beloved granddaughter, Alison Lambert all of Calypso; several nieces and nephews, including nephew, Jimmy Pate of Calypso, who was like another son and for whom he helped raise and offer parental guidance; and sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Hazel Lambert of Calypso, Haran Nelson and Clementine Waters of Mount Olive and Deborah Waters of Cary.
