EDNA B. SMITH

Jan. 2, 1918-April 8, 2017

On Saturday evening, April 8, 2017, Edna Butts Smith, 99, of the Hood Swamp Community, moved to her Heavenly home. Edna was a godly woman who loved the Lord and her family and set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.

Edna was born in Wayne County on Jan. 2, 1918, to the late Elias and Helen Smith Butts. She had been married to the late Robert Lee Smith Sr. and David Samuel Webber.

Edna was a charter member of Coker Memorial PFWB Church as well as the ladies auxiliary. She was a true Christian lady who loved God and lived each day showing those around her what faith in action is all about. She was caring, giving, loving, and yes feisty! Edna will be sorely missed here on earth, but we take solace in the fact that she has now rejoined her family that has gone before her.

A service to celebrate Edna's life will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Coker Memorial PFWB. Church, with Pastor Charles Heath officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Delia Smith. Interment will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Edna is survived by her sons, Doug Smith and wife, Mae Jennings Smith, and Colin Smith and wife, Freida; daughter, JoAnne S. Sauls; daughters-in-law, Pauline Smith and Delia Smith; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, E.B. Butts and wife, Helen; and stepson, Clayton Webber and wife, Betty.

In addition to her husbands and parents, Edna was preceded in death by her sons, Robert Lee Smith Jr. and the Rev. Reynolds Smith; brother, Fred Butts; and sisters, Mozelle Narron and Bliss Thomas.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be given to Coker Memorial Church, 2643 N. Beston Road, LaGrange, N.C., 28551 or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
