March 26, 2017, Gladys Toler, 84, lovingly known as the lady who sold home interiors and candles, achieved her final goal. She is resting in the arms of Jesus. She quietly passed away at Kitty Askins in Goldsboro surrounded by her family.

Gladys was born Dec. 6, 1932, to the late Sam and Dessie Blackmon of Goldsboro.

Gladys worked several jobs, but her passion was working for Home Interiors and Gifts. She worked for 30 years, and then retired to take care of her husband.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Her house was a home to many people.

She was a charter member of Goldsboro Church of God of Prophecy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Toler, and two brothers, Sam Blackmon Jr. and Kenneth Blackman.

She is survived by two brothers, Malcolm Blackmon and wife, JoAnn, and Lounes Blackman and wife, Glenda; a sister-in-law, Dixie Toler, and her daughter, Shirley Toler and husband, Junior; three sons, Danny Toler, Clifford Toler and wife, Gaye, and Randy Toler and wife, Angie; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three nieces, who thought of her as a second mother, Talana, Vicky and Sabrina.

A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home, with her grandson, Jeffrey Toler officiating.

Visitation will follow the service. All other times, family and friends will meet at the home of her daughter, 101 West April Lane, Goldsboro.
