JAMES HAROLD WISE

July 30, 1936-Feb. 21, 2017

James Harold Wise, 80, Mount Olive, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at Wayne UNC Healthcare surrounded by his family.

James was born in Wayne County July 30, 1936, to the late Arlon and Alma Jackson Wise.

He was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life; he lived to work. James had worked as a carpenter and a farmer, and retired from shipping at APV Baker in Goldsboro.

He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them.

James served his community as a fireman for more than 20 years with Jordan's Chapel Volunteer Fire Department.

Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed.

A service celebrating James' life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Eureka Christian Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home.

More than anything else, James was devoted to his wife of 62 years, Esther Thornton Wise.

He is also survived by his children, Dwight Wise and wife, Peggy, Connie Richards and husband, Eddy, and Wayne Wise and wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Jennifer Craig (Jesse), Adam Wise (Brittany), Jacob Richards, Sarah Richards, Connor Wise and Jace Wise; and great-grandchildren, Riley Hatch, R.J. Craig, Levi Aldridge, Cody Craig, Colby Craig and Skyler Craig; and sister, Joyce Holland and husband, Earl.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, April Wise and Gabriel Wise.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Carlisle Purvis Scholarship Fund at Eureka Christian Church, 2036 Dobbersville Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
