NETA THORNTON PATE

Neta Thornton Pate, 85, Belfast community, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with her family by her side.
Funeral will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road.
There will be a time of sharing and fellowship with the family in the sanctuary following the service.
Committal service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving are her daughter, Pamela Matthews (Lavon); her sons, Randy Pate (Rene) and Ronnie "J.R." Jordan (Vicky) all of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Timmy Matthews, Brad Matthews, Chad Matthews (Barbara), Jamie Pate (Pamela), Brandy Causey (Kenny), Christian, Savannah and Landon Pate, Ryan Jordan and Jay Jordan (Susan); sisters-in-law, Joyce Pate Crumpler and Edna Thornton; along with 15 great-grandchildren and 37 special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pate was born in the Grantham community of Wayne County, and was preceded in death by her parents, Betti Ann Grady Thornton and Joseph Harvey Thornton; her six siblings; along with her beloved husband, Charles B. Pate.
Mrs. Pate was a former member of Eureka Christian Church, and a longtime member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church for 61 years.
She was a Sunday school teacher at Stoney Creek, active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, Alpha Circle, Primetimers, Ladies Auxiliary of Belfast Fire Department and Widow and Widowers of Free Chapel, as well as a first aid nurse volunteer for the Red Cross at Belfast Elementary and Charles B. Aycock High School and rest home volunteer at the Brian Center.
Mrs. Pate's absolute favorite pastime was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in various ball games in the community and attending church softball games.
Arrangements are with Evergreen Funeral Home.
