Esther Strickland Edwards, 87, died Sunday afternoon at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

She was the daughter of the late Willie Jasper and Mary Cotton Strickland, and was the widow of Luby Edwards.

Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Salvation Army, and had worked in the Thrift Store as a cashier.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday in Wayne Memorial Park at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Ralph Parker officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Edwards is survived by her sons, Doodle Edwards and wife, Janice, of Grantham and Michael Edwards and Timmy Edwards both of Patetown; a daughter, Pennie Young and husband, Duke, of Grantham; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Edwards, and siblings, Willie, Melvin, Polly, Pat and Dot.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
