BETTY MARTIN JACKSON

Aug. 9, 1938-Dec. 20, 2016

Betty Martin Jackson, 78, Goldsboro, entered into the gates of heaven to Jesus during the early morning of Dec. 20, 2016, and into the loving arms of her parents, Lehman A. Martin and Lessie M. Martin, after a long illness.

Betty was born Aug. 9, 1938, as a premature infant and, with the love of her parents, beat the odds and survived. She was a true Daddy's girl.

Through hard work and struggles, she graduated from East Carolina Teachers College in 1960, and became a teacher with the Wayne County Public Schools.

After the birth of her son, she became a stay-at-home mom, and also taught sewing and piano classes.

Betty loved to tell the story of how she first met the love of her life. About 67 years ago, she met him on her first Sunday at Jordans Chapel Baptist Church, and he dumped water on her head from a funeral home tent.

She kept her word to her Daddy, and did not marry Delma until after she graduated from college. So, she graduated one day, and married Delma the next day.

Betty was a faithful and charter member of Love Memorial Baptist Church, and served various roles, including organist for many years, along with Vacation Bible School director, church clerk and financial secretary. She was also a faithful member of Faith Sunday School class.

Betty was very involved in her community, and volunteered with Wayne Community Concerts Association, Mar Mac Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels as route coordinator and deliverer.

Betty will be remembered by her numerous stories, her ability to play the piano/organ, that beautiful sweet smile and her love to talk. Her family will remember the love she showed to her parents, husband, children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Delma Jackson; her daughter, Betty Carole of Goldsboro; her son, James and his wife, Jennifer, of Round Rock, Texas; and her grandchildren, Anna, Katie, Matt and Will also of Round Rock, Texas.

She was a wonderful wife, Mama, and Grandma.

In addition to her immediate family, Betty is survived by her brother, Charles Martin and his wife, Janet; her husband's siblings, Bill and Linda Jackson and Gary and Nita Britt; along with a host of other extended family members.

Betty loved being pampered each week by Deana Hood, and going to Panache and the special attention paid to her by Mike, Rose and Hillary. She also loved Matt and the girls at Hwy 55 restaurant, especially Bailee Daniels, whom she called granddaughter. There were many other special people, but are too numerous to mention.

The family will greet friends Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home.

The funeral will be Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Toler and the Rev. Frank Sandy officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park of Dudley, N.C.

Flowers are welcome, but memorial contributions may be made to Love Memorial Baptist Church at 298 Woodland Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Meals on Wheels at WAGES, 601 Royal Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the special treatment given to Betty by the staff in ICU and Palliative Care at Wayne UNC Health.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
