Mrs. Dorothy Pauline Goodson Grady, 95, resident of the Oak Ridge community near Mount Olive, passed away late Monday night, Dec. 5, at her residence.

Services to remember her life will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wanda Simmons and the Rev. Lynwood Boyette officiating, followed by visitation. Committal and burial will be Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Friends and family may also call at the Grady residence.

Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, c/o Charlie Ivey, 2284 Summerlin's Crossroads Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.

A graduate of B.F. Grady High School in 1938, it was Sept. 30, 1941, that she married her beloved John Lewis Grady. They were a farming couple who, in time, had three children, and who now survive, Donald Lewis Grady with his wife, Rebecca Grady, of Spring, Texas, Linda Grady Smith of Oak Ridge community of Mount Olive and Beverly Grady Brown of Mars Hill.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Carla Smith Howard, Lori Brown, Kevin Smith, Danielle Cooper, Michael Brown and John Grady; five great-grandchildren, Blayden Howard, Caitlyn Cooper, Lauren Cooper, Jacob Grady and Samantha Grady; one sister, Doris Little now of Kinston and formerly of Goldsboro; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Husband, John Lewis Grady; son-in-law, Lewis Garland Smith; sister, Marjorie Pate; brother, Albert Neal Goodson; and her parents, Alfred Neal Goodson and Lossie Alphin Goodson; preceded this dear one in death.

Mrs. Grady was a longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church, having served in many activities and happenings through the years. She had been a vacation Bible school teacher and director and Sunday school teacher, and had blessed the congregation with the sounds of her musical abilities as organist for more than two decades.

She had been chairman of Duplin County Red Cross, and was active in evaluating area nursing homes.

In her retirement years, she assisted in the operation of Summerlin's Crossroads General Store and enjoyed quilting and various crafting activities.

Known for her meticulous appearance, her home and yard also reflected that persona about her.

The family extends a heartfelt appreciation to the Kenansville staff of Vidant Home Care and Hospice for exemplary care and support, especially to Brandi Burroughs, Leigh Ann Underhill, Ray Kennedy and Debra Fleming, and also to caregivers, Sherry Powell and Barbara Cruse, whose efforts allowed Mrs. Grady to remain at home during her final months of life.

A Tyndall service.
