Russell Stephen Ward, 46, Goldsboro, passed away Oct. 30, 2016.

Steve was born in Wayne County, N.C., July 8, 1970, to Mary Ann Worley Ward of Goldsboro and the late Russell Simeon Ward.

He loved spending his free time going metal detecting or on archaeological digs with close friends, Jeremy, Kirk, Tim and others.

Steve was an avid Civil War relic hunter, and donated much of what he discovered to the Wayne County Museum.

He was a part of the Downtown Goldsboro Artifact Recovery Mission.

Steve was happiest when he was outdoors searching for artifacts or driving to the coast to relax and be with friends.

A service to celebrate Steve's life will be Thursday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends following the service.

In addition to his mother, Steve is survived by a wonderful son, Matthew Logan Ward of Seven Springs, and his sister, Lisa Jane Ward of Tampa, Fla.

He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, David and Rhonda Ward; his aunt, Judy Aycock; his uncle and aunt, Bobby and Linda Braswell; his aunt, Donna White; his uncle, Marvin Ray Worley; and a few cousins, who were close to his heart, Michelle and husband, Dan, Brandon and wife, Sandra, Angie, Savannah, Melissa and Chris.
