Sept. 13, 1935-Sept. 23, 2016

Tom Harvey Colie, 81, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Tom was born Sept. 13, 1935, in Wayne County to the late Sherman Colie and Lola Carter Colie.

One who loved working with his hands, hard work personified Tom's life. He farmed many years, raising tobacco, cattle and hogs.

Tom loved the land, and cherished time spent on the farm or in the garden.

Tom later enjoyed a career in manufacturing with the establishment of Colie Manufacturing in Eureka, which later was known as Brooks Manufacturing.

Tom last worked with Helena Chemical.

A tinkerer, Tom was most proud of the pea and bean sheller he built himself.

Tom attended Kinston First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

His memory will continue to live in the hearts of his family.

A service to celebrate and honor Tom's life will be held Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home, with pastor Brian Rogers officiating. Interment will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Eureka Cemetery.

Tom is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betty Tyndall Howard; four children, Cheryl Ellington and husband, Bill, Deborah Whitley and husband, Ben, Tommy Colie and wife, Connie, and Timmy Colie and wife, Susan; six stepchildren, Marilyn Alexander, Diane Quinn and husband, Dan, Laverne Duggins and husband, Tim, Donald Howard and wife, Tammy, Connie Storie and Kim Howard and wife, Angie; sister, Mary Wooten; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tom's family will receive friends Monday following the memorial service and at other times, the family will be at the home.
