VERNON Y. THACKER

Vernon Y. Thacker, 86, Goldsboro, died Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
He retired in 1971 as a senior master sergeant with 231/2 years of service during the Korea Conflict and the Vietnam War.
Graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 3888 U.S. 70 West, Princeton, N.C.
The family will share with friends following the service.
Surviving are two sons, Douglas Thacker and his wife, Delores, and their children, Jessica Thacker and Nichlaus Thacker, his wife, Katie, and children, Henry and Hazel, and Jeffery L. Thacker and his wife, Rebecca, and their children, Zachary Thacker and Lindsey T. Thompson and her husband, Adam, and child, Aubree.
He was a native of Durham, and was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Butler Thacker (1997), and his parents, Hettie Tilley Thacker and Bernice Arnold Thacker.
