Rosemarie Cassese Diorio, 69, Goldsboro, passed away suddenly Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Rosemarie was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., April 6, 1947, to the late Joseph and Louise Cassese.
She had worked as a correctional officer with Wayne Correction Center in Goldsboro.
Throughout her life, Rosemarie lived her life with resiliency and a love for life. She faced her obstacles with grace and dignity.
Rosemarie could light up a room with her joyous personality and radiant smile.
She was an amazing mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren.
Anyone who knew her, knew she could make friends with anyone and was a kind and loving person to all she met.
Rosemarie was blessed to have so many loyal lifelong friends to share the wonderful memories and experiences with over the years.
She was the rock of her family, and her children knew that she loved them with all her heart and truly was a blessing to them.
Rosemarie’s greatest joy was her love for gardening, her animals and cooking meatballs for her family.
A service celebrating Rosemarie’s life will be held Monday, July 4, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Rosemarie is survived by her children, Frank Diorio and wife, Heather, of Pikeville, Vincent Diorio and wife, Tammy, of Goldsboro, Michelle Barefoot and husband, Larry, of Goldsboro and Roseanne Diorio of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Robert Diorio, Bryan Diorio (Allie), Nicholas Barefoot (Sarah), Debra-Lee McCoy (Zach), Michael Diorio, Stephanie Gray (Jacob), Victoria Diorio, Kyle Herring, Cole Herring and kcbelle Herring; six great-grandchildren; and was anticipating the birth of another great-grandchild next year.
She is also survived by her brother, Benjamin Cassese and wife, Ingrid, of New York, and a sister, Collette Daab and husband, Alan, of New York.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Diorio; grandchildren, Andrew Diorio and Anthony Diorio; and a great-grandchild, Joey.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 3, 2016, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.
