Doris Evelyn Thigpen Davis, 81, passed away June 14, 2016, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.

Doris was born June 1, 1935, to Leslie Ray and Dorothy Lee Thigpen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel H. Davis; her sister, Edna Dobson; her stepson, Homer Davis; and her stepgrandson, Steven Davis.

Doris was a retired legal secretary and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Goldsboro First Ward. Doris served many callings in church, which included primary president, relief society secretary, Sunday school teacher, music director, ward music chair and stake music chair.

Doris is survived by her children, Colette Davis Harper (Mike) of Brodnax, Va., Denis Davis (Katreena) of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Russell Davis (Jane) of Goldsboro, N.C., Nola Hill (Clarence) of Pink Hill, N.C., and Cyndi Davis Barker (Stephen) of Chatham, Va.; one stepson, Danny Davis of Kinston, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, Billy Hill (Kimberly) of Kinston, N.C., Matthew Hill of Pink Hill, N.C., Brooke Whitley (Johnathan) of LaGrange, N.C., Michael Adams of Pikeville, N.C., Eric Davis (Kelly) of Woodbridge Va., Jared Davis (Laura), Serena Davis, Mariah Davis and Chandler Davis all of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Daniel Davis (Sara) of Kinston, Nicole Davis of Oxford, N.C., and Danielle Davis of Kinston, N.C.; 12 great grandchildren, Kennedy Hughes, Hayden Turner, Spencer Corey, Ashley Davis, Shannon McCullough, Carter Hill, Hayleigh Baez, Whitney McCullough, Emily Davis, Cameron Hill, Ryleigh Davis and Millie Davis; one nephew, Don Lester Jr. of Smyrna, Tenn.; one niece, Shelli Pletcher of Ashland City, Tenn.; stepgrandson, Danny Davis Jr.; and one stepgranddaughter, Faye Davis Smith.

Doris enjoyed making jewelry and wreaths, spending time with her family and doing family history. She had traced genealogy as far back as the 700s.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Goldsboro Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1000 E. 11th St., Goldsboro, N.C., Monday, June 20, 2016.

Funeral services will follow the visitation, with Bishop J.W. Bass officiating. A committal service will be held at the Woodington Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Deep Run, N.C., Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at 10 a.m.
