Shirley Wilkins Carter, 73, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at her home.

Shirley was born in Duplin County on Dec. 23, 1942, to the late Andrew and Tharon Harper Wilkins. She was married to the late Ralph Eugene Carter. Shirley had retired from UniFirst. She was the rock of her family. Her husband and children knew that she loved them with all her heart and truly was a blessing to them.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Willow Dale Cemetery with the Rev. James Herring officiating. The family will receive friends at her home and immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Elaine Webber and husband, John of Goldsboro; son, Nathan Carter of Dudley; brothers, Wilbert Wilkins and wife, Edna and Ed "Tink" Wilkins and wife, Jody; two grandchildren, Paula Deaver and husband, Lucas, and Andrew Webber and wife, Kasey; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathon Deaver, Emerson Webber and Charlie Deaver. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Ed Carter and wife, Annette, and Ronnie Carter and wife, Mary; and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Carter and Jean Carter.

In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by sister, Mary Whaley.
