GRACE CARRAWAY SHIRLEY

Mrs. Grace Carraway Shirley, 91, Walstonburg, died Tuesday evening, May 24, 2016, at her home.
A native and lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born April 15, 1925, the daughter of Alonzo and Sallie Dora Harris Carraway.
Mrs. Shirley was a graduate of Snow Hill High School, and retired from Greene County Schools.
She was a member of Free Union Original Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Laurine Shirley, and all of her siblings, which included six sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are her daughter, Cathy Shirley Matthews and husband, Buddy, of Fuquay; son, Ray Shirley and wife, Sandra, of Walstonburg; grandchildren, Mark Shirley and special friend, Christina, Denise Lowery and husband, Moe, Carla Thompson and husband, Brian, Jim Mooring and wife, Kathey, and Jason Matthews and special friend, Anne; and great-grandchildren, Nate McCoy, Quincy Council, Quentin Council, Wesley Matthews, Breadon Thompson, Austin Mooring and Nick Lowery.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Kelley Smart officiating. Interment will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service from 1 to 1:50 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 764 Firetower Road, Walstonburg.
