ANN MOLIC HEUMANN

Died May 18, 2016

Ann Molic Heumann, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the age of 91.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Heumann, born at home in New York City, lived in Key Biscayne, Fla., Marion, S.C., and Greenville, N.C., where she finally settled when her husband, Walter, took a job with Voice of America in 1960.

She was employed with East Carolina University from 1964 to 1986 as an administrative secretary to four different department chairmen in the department of foreign languages and literature.

Ann and Walter married in 1946 when Walter returned from service in the United States Army Air Corps after World War II.

They lived in Carle Place, Long Island, N.Y., until 1953 when they moved to Miami, Fla., and eventually bought a house at Key Biscayne.

They enjoyed boating, traveling and entertaining friends, which kept them busy as they both worked full time.

They later moved to Marion, S.C., where Ann and Walter purchased two radio stations, where they both were employed.

In 1960, Walter accepted a position with Voice of America when construction began on the three-site installation in Greenville.

Soon after, Ann began working at East Carolina University until her retirement in 1986. She cherished many of the friendships made in the department, and after retirement, she continued to meet with a group of work friends nicknamed the "Burger King Club."

Ann and Walter enjoyed traveling and spending time at the river near Chocowinity.

After Walter's death in 1982, Ann continued to go to the river, where she eventually met George Heumann, whom she married in 1988.

Ann and George enjoyed their winters in Kississimee, Fla., where they were frequent visitors to EPCOT and the Magic Kingdom.

Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Some of the happiest years were spent after the birth of her granddaughter, Sarah, who remained the joy of her life.

Sadly, her declining health made it difficult for her to fully enjoy her great-grandson, but any mention of Bradley always brought a smile to her face.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Rosalia Oleskow Fedan both farm children in the same village in Galacia, Austria; husbands, Walter Molic and George Thomas Heumann; and her brothers, Edward Fedan and Stephen Anthony Fedan.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynne Molic Rackley and husband, Alvis Eugene Rackley Jr., of Greenville, N.C., and Gail Molic Nickens and husband, Larry Cobb Nickens, of Goldsboro, N.C.; granddaughter, Sarah Nickens Williams and husband, Ronald Gray Williams Jr., of Beaufort, N.C.; great-grandson, Bradley Thomas Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times, at the home of Lynne and Gene Rackley.

The family would like to express its gratitude to Mary Roscoe and all the other parishioners of St. Peter Catholic Church, who supported her with their prayers, and to the staff and residents of Cypress Glen and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of Vidant Medical Center for the compassionate care and support they provided.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund at Cypress Glen Retirement Community, 100 Hickory St., Greenville, N.C., 27858, or St. Peter Catholic Church, 2700 E. Fourth St., Greenville, N.C., 27858.
