Emma Lee Jernigan "Jerry" Rouse, 93, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Monday, March 28, 2016, in her home.
Jerry was born March 11, 1923, in Wayne County to the late James David Jernigan and Gertrude Crumpler Jernigan.
She was the wife of the late H. Frank Rouse Jr., and was preceded in death by two children, Brenda Elizabeth Rouse and Rodney Franklin Rouse.
Jerry was the last living member of Belfast School class of 1940.
She was a godly woman, who loved the Lord and her family. Her life set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.
Jerry was a longtime member of Wheat Swamp Christian Church.
Her love of children led her and her husband, Frank, to lovingly open their home and serve as foster parents to many children.
Jerry enjoyed quilting and doll making. Jerry was a beautiful person whose loving spirit and ever present smile radiated the joy she experienced in living every day of her life. Jerry was deeply devoted to her family, and was happiest when all were together.
A service to celebrate and honor Jerry's life will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Wheat Swamp Christian Church, with pastor Hank Jarman officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Jerry is lovingly survived by seven children, Douglas Rouse and wife, Renee, Jeffrey Rouse and wife, Gloria, Donnie Avery, Kathy Heckman, Rosa Crouse and husband, Gary, Richard Howard and wife, Della, and Theresa Craft and husband, Michael; two special cousins, Jackie Van Hoy and Leslie Van Hoy; two special friends and caregivers, Betsy Murphrey and Mary Smith; a lifelong friend, Lib Owen; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Jerry was also preceded in death by four siblings, Ruby Lois Jernigan, James Jernigan, David Earl Jernigan and Frances Tillman.
Jerry's family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times, the family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Rouse, 3401 Rouse Dairy Farm Road, LaGrange.
