Phennie Everett Creel, 89, Kannapolis, died Monday, March 7, 2016, at Big Elm Nursing Center.
He was born May 7, 1926, in Duplin County, the son of the late Norwood Creel and Katie Taylor Creel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dessie Pate Creel; brother, George Creel; and son-in-law, Judge Randall Combs.
He drove a truck for East Coast Transport in Goldsboro for more than 38 years.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at Whitley’s Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 7 p.m. at Whitley’s.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Wayne Memorial Park of Goldsboro.
He is survived by three children, Ronald Creel and wife, Amy, of Indian Trail, Cindy Creel Kornegay and husband, Robert, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Donna Creel Combs of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Matthew and Joseph Creel, Aaron Kornegay, Jessica Combs Everhart and Rebecca Combs; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Doretha Clark of Hopewell, Va.
