PHILLIP M. SCHAEFFER

June 27, 1959-Feb. 2, 2016

Phillip Michael Schaeffer, 56, died suddenly Feb. 2, 2016, in Omaha, Neb.

Michael was born to Phyllis A. Schaeffer and the late Robert B. Schaeffer on June 27, 1959, at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

Until his death he worked as a designer and software programmer for commercial sprinkler systems used in the fire protection industry. His job was his passion, and his work resulted in eight patents that were awarded to him from 2009 to 2014.

Michael enjoyed traveling for his job and recently he enjoyed serene living while spending quality time with his mother on the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. Michael loved cats so much that he always had more than one but his favorite of all was Ziggy the Cat.

Michael is survived by his mother, Phyllis of Goldsboro; daughter, Heather Evans (Brian) of Pikeville; two grandchildren, Weston Heath Evans and Kensley Paige Evans; siblings, Lynda Shindley (Rick) of Big Lake, Minn., Sue Schaeffer or Rio Rancho, N.M., Bobbie Broughton (Doug) of LaGrange, Anna Schaeffer of Goldsboro, and John McCorkle of Georgia. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A remembrance of Michael's life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. at Stevens Chapel Baptist Church, 2850 Stevens Chapel Road in Smithfield. The family will welcome visitors Wednesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Stevens Chapel Baptist Church. A private interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Connie Barbour Fund (through Stevens Chapel) in memory of Phillip Michael Schaeffer.
