ALBERTA COOR JACKSON

Alberta Coor Jackson was laid to rest Jan. 16, 2016, in the Atlantic County Veteran Cemetery in Estell Manor, N.J.

Alberta was born Feb. 7, 1933, to Walker Maryland and Claretta Coor.

Upon graduating from Dillard High School in 1951, she attended North Carolina Central University.

She completed her bachelor’s degree at Rowan University in 1971. She pursued graduate studies on the Holocaust.

From her marriage to Walter Jackson, three children were born, Jennifer, Walter and Jeffrey.

After many years of working in Goldsboro, she relocated to Atlantic City, N.J. and began her professional career as an educator in the Atlantic City Public Schools.

In 1972, she began employment with Atlantic County Welfare Board. She retired as training director in 1995.

Alberta was a devoted member of St. James AME Church.

Alberta was a member of Atlantic City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., having served a term as chapter president. She was a past president of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. and the Atlantic City Chapter of North Carolina Central Alumnae.

She supported many charities, loved to travel and was an avid reader. She loved playing with her dogs.

Alberta was predeceased by her parents, Walker and Claretta Coor; her husband, Walker Jackson; her brothers Milford Coor (Christine), Johnny Coor (Mary), Walker M. Coor Jr., Nathanial Coor and sister, Lee Anna Cox (Sam).

She leaves to cherish her memories to her loving children, Jennifer (Winston), Walter, Jeffrey (Lisa); grandchildren, Walter II, Marcus, Jeffrey, Angela and Joshua; three great-grandchildren, her caring sister, Rosa M. Baker (Eddie); sisters-in-law, Anne Coor, Emma Coor, and daughter-in-law, Diane Jackson, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; two special daughters, Robyn Wood (Marshall) and Sylvia Lisbon and a great number of friends.
