MARY ANN MCMURTREY (PRICE)

Died Nov. 29, 2015

Mary Ann McMurtrey, 71, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at Vidant Medical Center.

She was the daughter of Nan Davis Moore and the late Leonard McMurtrey.

Ms. McMurtrey was born in Goldsboro, N.C., and attended Brogden High School before moving to Raleigh, N.C., where she attended Broughton High School.

She later attended Lenoir Community College in Kinston, N.C., where she studied court reporting, then the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she majored in nursing.

Ms. McMurtrey was married to Wiley Price of Raleigh, N.C., and had two sons, Jay Price, a longtime reporter for the News and Observer, now with North Carolina Public Radio, and Wiley Price Jr., who owns a real estate company in Grifton, N.C.

Mary Ann enjoyed life, and especially time with her family. She was a spiritual person, and believed deeply in Jesus Christ and that life continues on the other side, where she will meet friends and family again.

Mary Ann had a very cheerful and happy disposition, and was always ready to help anyone, be they family, friend or stranger. She was dearly loved by her family and friends, who will miss her greatly.

She is survived by a son, James R. "Jay" Price, his wife, Alexis, and their daughter, Lilly, all of Chapel Hill, N.C.; son, James Wiley Price Jr. of Grifton, N.C.; her sister, Nancy Carol Mayo of Raleigh, N.C.; her longtime companion, Ben L. Jordan of Grifton and Rosewood, N.C.; and many, many delightful nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating Mary Ann's life will be held in Deans Family Cemetery off of Tommy's Road Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at 11 a.m.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Burial will be by the side of Pharby Deans Davis, her great-great-grandmother and widow of fallen Civil War soldier Burwell Davis, at Deans Family Cemetery on Tommy's Road, where many of her other ancestors are interred.

Seymour Funeral Home is serving the family.

Memorials can be made to Deans Cemetery, which is maintained by donations, 125 Deans Lane, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
