HENRY PAUL SUMMERLIN

March 5, 1939-Nov. 17, 2015

Henry Paul Summerlin, resident of Summerlin's Crossroads community near Mount Olive for all of his 76 years, passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 17, 2015, at Vidant Duplin Hospital.

He was the son of McCoy Stephen Summerlin and Nannie Lou Grady Summerlin, both of whom preceded him in death, as did a sister, Mary Lou Summerlin Hudson; three brothers and a sister-in-law, retired Col. Billy McCoy Summerlin, United States Marine Corps, David Louis Summerlin and Jimmy Oliver Summerlin and Ernesteen Jones Summerlin; and great-nephew, Eric McCoy Hudson.

He is survived by a sister, Eva Nan Summerlin, with whom he and David shared the home in which they all were born and continued to live.

He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Gaynelle Puckett Summerlin of Jacksonville; an aunt, Pauline Goodson Grady of Mount Olive; numerous nieces and nephews to include Joseph McCoy Hudson, his wife, Rose Holmes Hudson, of Mount Olive and their daughter, Heather Rose Hudson Lancaster, and husband, Jesse, of Pink Hill, Mary Allen Hudson of O'Berry Center in Goldsboro, Lu Anne Summerlin Swinson, her husband, Todd, and their daughter, Alexis, of Kenansville, Michael Troy Summerlin and friend, Robert Dodge, of Raleigh, Clay Summerlin, his wife, Carol, and their children, Tyler and Morgan, of Clemson, S.C., Billie Gaye Summerlin Stokes, her husband, Tom, and their children, Amanda and Tommy, of Frederick, Md., Tracie Summerlin Holcomb and her husband, Norman "Rocky," and their children, Summer Lynn and Norman Dewey, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Raymond McCoy Summerlin, his wife, Beth, and their son, Andrew, of Hannibal, Mo.; other great-nieces and great-nephews, Matthew Levai, his wife, Erica, and their son, Rylan Case, of Kenansville, Mary Beth Lunsford, her husband, Weston, and their daughter, Avery Grace, of Milton, Fla., and Timothy McCoy Summerlin and his wife, April, of Hannibal, Mo.; special friends and family assistants, Christine Bass and Maynor Perez both of Mount Olive; many cousins; and much extended family; and numerous friends.

Henry Paul was a simple man, who loved his family and community, and his family and community loved him in return.

He attended, and had been a longtime member of, Bethel United Methodist Church, and was recently honored by the congregation for his long tenure of membership, faithful attendance and service.

He assisted in the operation of the family farm, and was known for his love for his golf cart on which he frequented the store at "the Crossroads" for a cold Pepsi, and is fondly remembered for having always stated, "I didn't do it" when something occurred, and most of the time he did do it, and the family knew it.

Henry Paul's life will be celebrated in a service of worship to be held Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wanda G. Simmons officiated, followed by burial in Summerlin Family Cemetery near the residence.

Condolences may be expressed to the family immediately following the service at the cemetery or at the residence at other times.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, c/o Charles Ivey, 2284 Summerlin's Crossroads Road, Mount Olive, 28365.
