EVELYN LONG WILLIAMS

Evelyn Long Williams, 85, of Goldsboro, was called home Sunday, Oct. 18, surrounded by her family and pastor.

Evelyn was born in Duplin County on Sept. 26, 1930 to the late Charlie and Lydia Corbitt Long.

She was a loving wife for 68 wonderful years to Alton Whitley Williams and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was special to her. She was an active member of New Hope Friends Church and active at Goldsboro Family Y, even on Wed., Oct. 14.

She was a fine Christian lady and an inspiration to her family, church and friends at the Family Y. She was well-known for her chocolate cake and was an avid golfer as long as her health allowed.

A service celebrating Evelyn's life will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at New Hope Friends Church with Bill Garner officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at New Hope Friends Cemetery.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Gail Williams Mewborn and husband, Wilson and Rita Williams Pate and husband, Richard of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Amy Mewborn Owens of Richmond, Va.; great-grandsons, Ryan and Alex Owens of Richmond, Va.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Benjamin, Prentice, Adolph, George and Buster Long; sisters, Bessie Anderson, Annie Taylor and Ruby Hunnings.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to New Hope Friends Church, 4451 US Hwy. 70 East, Goldsboro, N. C. 27534 or Goldsboro Family Y, 1105 Parkway Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

The family will receive friends following the service in the family life center and at other times at the home of Wilson and Gail Mewborn.
