NOEL DWIGHT ROSE

April 28, 1925-Aug. 27, 2015

Noel Dwight Rose, Mount Olive, passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, after a brief illness.

Dwight was born April 28, 1935, in Wayne County to the late Noel Braxton and Ida Mae Fulgham Rose.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Noel Dwight Rose Jr.

Dwight grew up in Wayne County.

He was a proud member of the United States Army.

Dwight married the love of his life, Patricia Jernigan, March 1, 1958, at Jordan's Chapel Baptist Church. He remained loyal to her to the end, as she continues to fight her battle with Alzheimer's.

Pat and Dwight had two children, Noel Dwight and Sharon Elizabeth.

Dwight worked as a salesman for Tharrington Industries from 1975 until his retirement in 1997.

Dwight was a past master and 50-year member of Mill Creek Masonic Lodge No. 125 in Newton Grove. He was currently of the 37th degree.

Dwight received the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Patriotic Achievement in 1965 from United States Senator Jesse Helms.

He was also a charter member of Jordan's Chapel Fire Department, where he served as chief from 1965 to 1974. He retired in 1985.

He was president of the Wayne County Firemen's Association in 1974 and 1975, and in 1976, he was awarded the G. Edgar Summerlin Fireman of the Year Award.

Dwight was also certified as an ambulance attendant for Wayne County.

Dwight was a dedicated member of Jordan's Chapel Baptist Church, having joined in 1961. He served faithfully as Sunday school director, assistant Sunday school director, chairman of the building and grounds committee, usher, deacon, trustee and men's Sunday school teacher for many years.

He and Pat were very devoted to their service there, and enjoyed many social events with their church family. In later years, during Pat's illness, Dwight enjoyed visiting with the shut-ins of the church.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Patricia Jernigan Rose; his daughter, Sharon Rose Britt and husband, the honorable John M. Britt, of Tarboro; and his grandson, his pride and joy, John M. Britt Jr. of Tarboro.

He is also survived by his sister, Cherry Hinson; brother, Max Rose; and his cousin, Garry Price, who was more like a brother to him.

He also leaves Gabriela Blaylock, his caregiver, friend and "adopted daughter."

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Fountains at the Albemarle in Tarboro for its love and care during the final days of Dwight's life.
