June 10, 1925-June 26, 2015

Vernon Dewey Pelletier, 90, of La Grange, peacefully passed away Friday, June 26, 2015.

Vernon was born June 10, 1925, in Lenoir County to the late Oscar Lee Pelletier and Nancy Rouse Pelletier.

Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Rachel Lynch Pelletier.

Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was most proud of his service aboard the USS Edsall, where he served as a seaman first class.

He served tours in both the European and Asiatic-Pacific theaters.

A man who believed in hardwork, Vernon worked as a carpenter, store owner and was involved in rental property.

He was most proud of the homes he helped build for his sons and the nuggets of wisdom he shared with them through the years.

Vernon loved watching NASCAR races and once built his own race track.

He was a longtime member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church.

A service to celebrate and honor Vernon's life will be held Sunday, June 28, 2015, at 6 p.m. from Trinity Free Will Baptist Church with pastor Gerald Fowler officiating.

Interment with military honors will be Monday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.

Vernon is survived by two sons, Larry Pelletier and wife, Tina, and Phil Pelletier and wife, Kathy; four grandchildren, Jada Pelletier, Jason Pelletier, Stephanie Stallings and husband, Jeffrey, and Jennifer Goff and husband, Liam; six great-grandchildren, Braxton, Bristol, Emma Kate, Teslyn, Talon and Madison; sister, Esther Pelletier Flowers; and a special niece, Karen Modlin.

Vernon's family will receive friends Sunday following the service of remembrance.
