Shirley Lewis Pate, 80, Pikeville, died Monday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born in Wayne County May 27, 1935.
She was the granddaughter of the late A. J. Williams and Eula Brogden Williams.
Shirley was the daughter of the late Herbert Carlyle Lewis and Bessie Williams Lewis.
The late Carrie Williams was her guardian.
A retired teacher with Wayne County Public Schools, she was a graduate of East Carolina University.
Shirley was a longtime member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 4, 2015, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service in the chapel at 4 p.m. The Rev. Rose Hicks will officiate. Interment will follow at Pikeville Cemetery.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lee Pate Jr.; daughter, Jayne Caree Pate of Wilmington, N.C.; and a son, Adli Lee Pate of Pikeville.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Melody Pate Robb.
