Mrs. Clara Bell Brock Holmes, resident of the Brock's Chapel section near Mount Olive, passed into the presence of her Lord and savior Wednesday afternoon, April 8, 2015, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with her family at her bedside.

Born in Duplin County April 21, 1923, she was one of 12 children born to her late parents, Horace and Ida Mae Pate Brock, and was the last survivor of that immediate family, being preceded in death by her siblings, Marvin, Currie, Perry, Thurman, Garland, "Little" Horace, Eldridge Ray, Libbie, Hazel B. Herring, Edna B. Arnette and an infant.

Also, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. "Sonny" Holmes; two sons, Dennis Lee Holmes and James Wade Holmes; grandsons, Eric McCoy Hudson and Frederick Bruce Southerland Jr.; a son-in-law, Tom Gruebel; and great-grandchildren, Kelsey Rena Davidson and Russell Wade Holmes.

She is survived by six sons, Joe Holmes and wife, Joyce, and Russell Holmes all of Mount Olive, Jackie Holmes of Dudley, Rickie Holmes of Mount Olive, Mike Holmes and companion, Joyce Mobley, of Calypso, and Steve Holmes of the home; three daughters, Linda H Gruebel, Cathy H. Graham and Rose H. Hudson and husband, Joe, all of Mount Olive; James Wade's widow, Florence Holmes of Ellaville, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Lynn Holmes of Mount Olive; four sisters-in-law, Lucille H. Winders of Rocky Mount, Jean Holmes Horne of Mount Olive, Lillie Holmes of Rosewood and Everlene H. Futrelle of Albertson; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home between 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday, April 11, and at the residence at other times.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at Brock's Chapel Church, with the Rev. James Earl Herring officiating, followed by burial in Pate Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to Brock's Chapel Church, c/o Linwood Herring, 519 Tram Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365; Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; or the charity of one's choosing.
