Jarvis McKeel, 86, Goldsboro, passed away suddenly Monday, April 6, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Jarvis was born in Wayne County Aug. 13, 1928, to the late William and Ada Cox McKeel.

He retired from Dupont.

Jarvis was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met him.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 9, 2015, from 1 to 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Goldsboro, followed by a service celebrating Jarvis' life at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary, with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Jarvis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ernestine Sasser McKeel; sons, Jay McKeel and lifetime partner, Judy Gretsch, of Laurel, Md., and Dale McKeel and wife, Julie of Durham; brother, Melvin McKeel of Durham; and his grandchildren, Nathan McKeel and Colleen McKeel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Linwood McKeel, and sisters, Adean Gardner and Katherine Sauls.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 125 N. John St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
