BISHOP DAVID "PETE" HARTLEY

Bishop David (Pete) Hartley, 76, of Princeton, transferred to his reward Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 22, 1938, to the late David J. and Gladys Worley Hartley.

Pete owned and operated Hartley Plumbing from1968 to 2011.

He was a minister in the Church of God of Prophecy from 1961 to 2012, during which time he pastored churches in Tarboro, Princeton and Selma.

He loved the outdoors and spent hours rabbit hunting or just running his dogs.

Service to celebrate his life will be Tuesday evening at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. with services beginning at 7 p.m. with Bishop Steven Gilmer and Bishop Eugene Hartley officiating.

Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Princeton Cemetery.

Pete is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice Sasser Hartley; sons, Eugene and Darlene Hartley, Jesse and Karen Hartley and daughter, Catina, and Jimmy Capps, all of Princeton; six grandchildren, Danielle (Robbie) Wilkerson, Megan (Dustin) Gillenwater, Jonathan (Caitlin) Hartley, Lorenda Hartley, and Alexis and Caitlyn Grimes, all of Princeton, four great-grandchildren, Robert and David Wilkerson and Madilynn Taylor and Glory Hartley, all of Princeton; a step-great-granddaughter, Destiny Gillenwater, of Princeton; a brother, Percy Hartley, of Princeton; and sisters Eula Baker of Four Oaks and Barbara Worley of Princeton.
