MICHAEL HUGH HINNANT

Michael Hugh Hinnant, 67, passed away early Friday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Michael was born in Wayne County on July 9, 1947, to the late Hugh and Hilda Pate Hinnant. He was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church in Goldsboro.

Michael was devoted to his church, served as the choir director for 40 years, served as the director of the Salem JOY Club and was involved in many activities where he utilized his gifts and abilities to share the love of God. Michael was employed as an accountant for the Universal Leaf Tobacco Company. He was the former director of the Aycock Alumni Choir and was a former member of the Third Century Singers. Michael was a member of the Pikeville Lions Club and had served as past president. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

A service celebrating Michael's life will be held Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at 6 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sandy Schaller officiating. Interment will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Michael is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janet Duke Hinnant; son, Alan Michael Hinnant and wife, Carey, of Pikeville; sister, Sharon Cogdell and husband, Mike, of Richmond, Va.; and his grandson, Cooper Hinnant.

Flowers are welcome or the family suggests memorial contributions be given to Salem United Methodist Church, 2706 Salem Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

Following the service there will be a celebration of Michael's life in Salem Hall at which time the family will receive friends.
