JIM CHILDS

April 28, 1943-Jan. 23, 2015

CMSgt. James Norman "Jim" Childs, Jr., Retired U.S.A.F., 71, passed away on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.

Jim was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 28, 1943, to the late James Norman Childs, Sr. and Mary Evelyn Hayes Childs. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 30 years and nine days and retired in 1992 as a Chief Master Sergeant. Jim could often be found at the Base Chapel of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Following his military career, Jim worked in security at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Jim lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community. He had volunteered for 35 years with the Meals on Wheels program in Goldsboro.

In his younger days, Jim enjoyed playing tennis and fishing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson. Jim will be remembered for shopping and for pampering and spoiling his wife and daughter.

A service celebrating Jim's life will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Andy Stovall officiating. Military honors will follow the service. The family will greet friends following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wilma Mae Childs; daughter, Daphne Childs Haynes and husband, Allen, of Goldsboro; grandson, Taylor Ahrens; and brother, Michael Childs.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Meals on Wheels, 601 Royall Ave., Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
