Died Dec. 30, 2014

Lonniette Killette Porter, 64 5229 Sharon Church Road, Kinston, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at her home.

She graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 1968.

Lonniette was retired as a receptionist for attorneys Wallace, Morris, Barwick, Landis and Stroud.

A member of Tanglewood Church of God, she was a dedicated Christian, who loved her Church and Sunday school, where she was a member of the Vision Sunday school class.

She and Kenny enjoyed traveling to listen to gospel music.

She loved cooking for people in her church and community.

In her community, she was active with the "Miss Neuse" pageant and Hugo Volunteer Fire Department's auxiliary until her illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie E. and Helen Daw Killette.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Tanglewood Church of God, with pastor Allen Stocks and chaplain Allen Ham officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, Kenneth Porter of the home; her sisters, Karen Summerlin and Diane Andrews and husband, Art, all of Pikeville; her special great-niece, Emma Britt; and a host of relatives and close friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jillcott and his staff for more than 40 years of caring for her, LMH third-floor nursing staff and Dr. Carl L. Berg and Dr. James Tulsky at Duke Medicine for their care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tanglewood Church of God or Hugo Volunteer Fire Department auxiliary.
