KELSEY ANNE BERENS

Feb. 27, 1991-Sept. 20, 2014

Kelsey Anne Berens, 23, Goldsboro, died at her home Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, after years of struggling with depression.

Kelsey was born in Hoffman Estates, Ill., Feb. 27, 1991.

She was a 2009 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School, where she received several awards for excellence in visual arts and academic endeavors. She had recently attended Wayne Community College.

Kelsey expressed herself through her photography, writings, art and music. She had a strong love and concern for all of Earth's animals and their ecosystems and eagerly sought to learn all she could of the wonders of the universe.

She enjoyed meeting people of all walks of life, but chose her friends carefully.

Her greatest desire was to travel throughout the world as a wildlife photographer.

Those who were lucky enough to know her came to love the unique spirit she was. There's a new star in the night sky.

Kelsey is survived by her parents, Michael and Deborah Berens; brother, Joshua Berens; sister Paula Hamilton; her maternal grandmother, Charlotte Sutton of San Antonio, Texas; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James D. Sutton, and her paternal grandparents, Mathew G. and Frances D. Berens.

A graveside service remembering Kelsey will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at Pikeville Cemetery located on Mount Carmel Church Road, with the Rev. Doug Seymour officiating.

The family will greet friends and family immediately following the service at the cemetery.
